Ankle sprain
An ankle sprain mostly is a complex mutlifactorial lesion. We distinguish between a varus and a valgus trauma. The varus trauma occurs much more frequent : mostly we think of a separate or combined lesion of the talofibular ligament, the calcaneofibular ligament, the calcaneocuboid ligament and the peroneal tendons.
Ankle sprain (2) A good functional examination will be conclusive. Mobilisation is the key factor in recovery. For the ligaments and tendons deep transverse friction massage can be given in combination with, at a later stage, longitudinal stress exercises. Immobilisation for more than one week needs to be avoided.
