Validity This is the ability of a test to diagnose or measure what it is intended to diagnose or measure.
There are various dimensions of validity, but criterion validity is critical to the accuracy of a diagnosis. This is the ability of a test to determine the presence or absence of a particular pathology. The value of a test is judged by its ability to diagnose the pathology compared to a "gold standard". The validity of the "gold standard" is meant to be about 100%. Validity is measured by sensitivity and specificity. Read on...
Varus or valgus sprain Mostly we see a varus sprain (see ankle sprain).
Sometimes we are confronted with a valgus sprain : in that case we may rather expect a fracture instead of a lesion of the deltoid ligament ; perhaps there could be a lesion of the tibialis posterior too. In the latter case, it reacts well on friction massage.
